Dear Parents:
Welcome to Detroit Edison Public School Academy! You and your child are a vital part of the school's success. As youbegin your collaborative relationship with our school, I challenge youto become an active and involved parent. In return we acceptyour challenge to expect each D.E.P.S.A. teacher to constantly worktoward inspiring your child(ren) and exerting an influence that will"affect eternity."
Howdo you help us inspire? How do you motivate your children to do theirbest and achieve all of which they are capable? Remember, education isprimarily a job of communications. One key element available to all ofus is enthusiasm. If parents are enthusiastic about something-anything- that enthusiasm is communicated to those with whom contactis made.
Enthusiasticparents communicate to others that: they support their child's school, they are involved in their child's learning, and they are committed tothe school's goals. Parents who are hoping to inspire their children toattend Detroit Edison Public School Academy, should believe that schoolis important and that their children benefit from what they are taught.
Iknow there can be day-to-day realities and trials that plaguehome-school relations. It is sometimes difficult for parents tomaintain a positive outlook, high energy, and enthusiasm over asustained period of time. However, I also know that it is important tokeep a positive attitude that will communicate itself to children, andencourage them as they continue with their learning.
Parentswho become discouraged and experience "parent frustration," need toremember one thing; it can be prevented. All you have to do is concentrate on success rather than failure. Learnto look for success in little things. Don't expect overnight changes.Understand that it will not be easy, but with understanding andcooperation it can be done.
Isupport and applaud the efforts of all our teachers as they providechallenging and positive learning experiences that will address andmeet the individual/collective needs, abilities, and differences ofyour children. As you become an involved and supportive parent, I trust that you will maintain your enthusiasm as you help us promote the mission, goals and objectives of our school.
Best wishes for a collaborative and productive year.
Sincerely, Ralph C. Bland Superintendent |
